April 10, 1934 -- August 24, 2017
Lupe Gonzales was born in San Fernando, California. She married Ramon Medrano on May 12, 1954. Together they built a family of eight children. Supporting her husband's dream of creating a band, she was mother to the Medrano’s musical family.
Life was not always easy with such a big family. Providing a safe home and private education meant enduring struggles and sacrifice. Lupe nurtured the musical talents of her children that led to a successful 20-year musical journey, the span of musical accomplishments which included performances for political activists Caesar Chavez, NAACP, and the campaigns of Mayor Sam Yorty, Mayor Tom Bradley, and Irene Tovar. Other note worthy engagements include Burbank Studios with Doris Day, Monty Hall, The Big Frank Show, Chico and the Man, UCLA Special Olympics and more.
In establishing the Lupe Medrano Memorial Christmas Gift, our desire is to honor Lupe’s spirit of “Reaching for your Dreams” no matter the challenges you may face.
